Defect band formation in high pressure die casting AE44 magnesium alloy

The characteristics of defect bands in the microstructure high pressure die casting (HPDC) AE44 magnesium alloy were investigated. Special attention was paid to effects process parameters during HPDC and structure on distribution bands. Results show that are solute segregation with enrichment Al, Ce La elements, which basically form Al11RE3 phase. There is no obvious aggregation porosities width inner band 4–8 times larger than outer one. variation trends not consistent under different at locations castings. This due discrepancy between formation mechanisms double filling solidification behavior melt near chilling layer very complicated, finally leads a fluctuation location band.
